Academician Nebojsa Lalic was born on 14 January 1958 in Belgrade. He graduated from the University of Belgrade Faculty of Medicine in 1982 with the average grade of 10.00. He defended his master’s thesis in 1986, and his doctoral dissertation in 1993.

At the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Belgrade, he was elected assistant trainee (1989), assistant (1991), assistant professor (1995), part-time (1999) and full professor (2007). He has been the dean of the University of Belgrade Faculty of Medicine since the 2012/2013 school year.

He is a member of the Endocrinology Section of the Serbian Medical Society (1983), the Atherosclerosis Association of Serbia (1999), the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (1989), the American Diabetes Association (1991), the European Group for the Study of Insulin Resistance (1994), the International Diabetes Federation ( 2002) and other associations. He is an honorary member of the Association of Endocrinologists and Diabetologists of the Republika Srpska and the Association for Diabetes, Nutrition and Metabolism of Serbia. With his previous scientific research, teaching and professional work, he made a significant contribution to the development of endocrinology and diabetology, as well as to the overall development of scientific thought in Republika Srpska.

He has been a regular member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts since 2012. In the course of the entire scientific research work, he is the author or a member of the author’s team in 934 publications, of which he is the first or only author in 249. Within the mentioned number of publications, he published 193 papers 193 in extenso in magazines and anthologies, 42 chapters in monographs and textbooks of international or national importance and 699 abstracts at international (423) and domestic (276) scientific meetings. Of the total number of works in extenso, 173 were published in journals indexed in international databases. According to data from the database (Web of Science), works in indexed journals were cited 2,971 times (without self-citations).

He delivered many invited lectures at international (48) and national scientific gatherings (74), was a reviewer and member of the editorial board in international (21) and national (5) journals.

Elected as a foreign member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of the Republika Srpska on 21 December 2018.
